Competent Crew Sailing Course

Build on your sailing skills and gain your certificate of competency so that you can enjoy cruising with others, or work towards sailing your own boat.

Our Introduction to Sail certificate is highly recommended but not compulsory for those with some previous sailing experience. This competent crew sailing course is a challenging program full of vital information for working as an integral part of a team onboard any yacht.

The course covers:

  • Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a yacht and rigging
  • Ropework
  • Man overboard recovery
  • Manners and customs
  • Meteorology
  • Basic engine checks
  • Sail handling and adjustment
  • Personal safety, fire prevention and fire fighting
  • Distress signals
  • Rules of the 'road'
  • Steering a compass course under sail and power
  • Anchoring

Our students board our yacht from Kirribilli at 9.00 am, returning at 3.30pm, for 2 of the 3 days. Then students have an opportunity to experience 3 hours of night Sydney sailing.

Students bring their own lunch, sunscreen and a hat is recommended. We will provide wet weather jackets if required.

On completion you will receive a Yachting Australia course completion certificate. Cost is $670 per person.

Courses run regularly. Please contact us for available dates.

If you have a group that would like to do the course together and a particular date in mind - call us to arrange a booking.
